Here are some of our past projects.

1960's
McKinley Pre-School Project/HeadStart
In 1964 we began a productive partnership with the St. Paul Schools. The "Miracle of McKinley" supported and influenced the development of "HeadStart" in St. Paul. Inner city youth are still benefiting.

NCJW members provided vocational guidance and established a career resource center.

Children Are People (CAP)

Our successful and continuing drug education program aimed at drug prevention by improving self-image of elementary school children.

Ready, Set, Grow
NCJW's innovative and creative preschool reading program. NCJW volunteers encouraged the love of books in preschoolers.

Court Appointed Special Advocate program (CASA)

Recognizing juvenile issues, NCJW developed the current volunteer Guardian Ad Litem program in the Ramsey County Court System.

TLC - Teaching Language Communications
NCJW developed a program to teach newly arrived Hmong children English and practical knowledge of St. Paul and the United States.

1990's
Family Ties
We welcomed and assisted New Americans into the St. Paul Community, recognizing the obstacles they face and the richness they offer.

ArtReach

This acclaimed and innovative project served children in battered women's shelters. NCJW, the Family Violence Network and the Walker Art Center collaborated to reach and serve mothers and children in crisis and provide them with a creative, positive experience.

Holocaust Project
NCJW volunteers and St. Paul School teachers brought the history of the Holocaust to students, using inventive, age appropriate presentations.

Teaching Tolerance
In response to an alarming increase in hate crime among youth, the Southern Poverty Law Center began the Teaching Tolerance project in 1991. NCJW volunteers used this curriculum to teach St. Paul area school children lessons in peace, diversity, family pride and self respect.

For Our Daughters
An uplifting and informative Breast Cancer Awareness Series, in collaboration with United Hospital and The St. Paul Jewish Community Center.

2000's

Shalom Outreach Services (SOS) - Now the Jewish Domestic Abuse Collaborative Program (JDAC)
Domestic abuse in the Jewish community is a reality. SOS surveyed the Jewish Community and, to serve the needs of Jewish victims, a confidential hotline was set up. Trained Jewish volunteers mentored and guided the caller in seeking help. SOS also partnered with shelters in the metro area to enhance their awareness of the needs of Jewish families. A kosher / Shabbat package was made available to anyone going to a shelter. In 2004, this program was taken up by the community at large and is now called now called the Jewish Domestic Abuse Collaborative. They can be reached at 651-690-8930.
